Two new vehicles especially equipped for disable passengers have been introduced into service by a taxi company based in Harborough district.

Murphys taxis based on Roman Road Market Harborough have invested around in the 2 purpose built vehicles after customising them for the needs of elderly and disable passengers in the town. Until now passengers would have to reserve a vehicle several days in advance and passengers from Lutterworth in particular had no suitable vehicles from any taxi firm based in the town.

“There were no taxis that were suitable for wheelchair users” comments Mia Pain from Murphys taxis. “After seeking the opinions of local passengers it was clear that many disabled passengers or carers of the elderly, disabled or infirm would often be frustrated at the lack of transport available to them.”

The new vehicles allow the transportation of wheelchairs and up to X passengers in a single journey.

It is estimated that almost 20,000 people aged over 60 live in Harborough District – which has the highest proportion of the elderly in Leicestershire and one of the highest percentages nationally.

Murphys taxis is the largest taxi company operating in the Harborough District with centres in Harborough and Lutterworth.
