Murphys Taxis were delighted to read that Market Harborough has reached the top 50 in The Sunday Times’ ‘Best Places to Live’ guide.

Market Harborough features in part 3 of the guide that highlights the best towns in Britain. The section on Harborough notes that “Lattes and muddy walks, great schools and stunning views – 50 top locations where you don’t have to compromise”.

The top 50 position is reached through a complex combination of factors including data on crime rates, house prices and school performance to provide a definite ranking of Britain’s towns, suburbs, rural areas and cities.

The guide says of Harborough that it is “still relatively undiscovered by those seeking life after London, this ancient town in low-cost Leicestershire is within the magic hour by fast train from St Pancras. The charismatic mix of period architecture in the centre is topped by the newly renovated Old Grammar School, built on stilts in the early 1600s with a marketplace underneath. You can hire it out now, though Harborough has plenty of other interesting places for a get-together.”

“The Grand Union Canal ends here – a nice spot for boating, cycling or a weekend stroll. There’s lots of new housing going up around the town, from one-bed affordable flats to six-bedroom detached.”

I’m sure if there had been space that the authors of the report would have gone on to point out that the “Friendly local taxi firm Murphys are reliable and always on hand to take people from Harborough around the town, to the delightful local villages and even to the airport if they feel the need to get away from it all”
